Exploring Jaipur by cycle is one of the most exciting things you can do when visiting the city. Many travelers find Jaipur cycle tours an opportunity to understand the culture at close quarters. It is like living through the bustling life of the people of the city. However, for many, it might be a bit intimidating to experience the raw life of Jaipur, but it is equally mesmerizing.
Our patrons who stay at Castle Kanota, the luxury hotel rajasthan, plan to go on a cycle tour in Jaipur. And if you are planning to do the same, here is an account of a cycle tour experience we organized a few months back.
If you think about what Jaipur cycle tours are like, get ready to start pedaling the Jaipur cycle tour.
We decided to start the Jaipur cycle tour at the heart of the city. Hence, we reached the city center early in the morning. We decided to start early to avoid getting into the city's heavy traffic in the morning.
We wore proper cycling gear to ensure safety and laid some ground rules to avoid getting lost in the way.
Our tour began at Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh Circle.
The circle is also called the Statue Circle. It was exciting to cycle through the city, which was mostly deserted. There were very few vehicles, and the city was only getting started on the day ahead.
Ten minutes into the tour, we made the first stop at Lassiwala, which sells Lassi. It is a drink made from ice-cold water, crushed ice, yogurt, and honey or sugar. Lassiwala has been selling Lassi for more than 70 years, and you can find the seller here and there.
After the refreshing Lassi, we quickly got back on and continued our journey to the next destination—the Historical Center of Jaipur.
We entered the Center via the Ajmeri Gate. As we entered the center, the people looked at us enthusiastically and greeted us warmly. One could see the buildings in pink, signifying the nickname of the city—Pink City.
It is said that the city chose this color as it symbolizes hospitality. And to testify, Jaipur is one of the most hospitable cities we have been to.
After spending some time in the Center, we started our tour again.
We visited the Govind Dev Ji Temple and witnessed hundreds of devotees early in the morning praying and offering their gifts to the deity of the temple. We saw hundreds of devotees anxiously waiting for the veil to move so they could glimpse Lord Krishna's statute.
The atmosphere seeped into a trance as the devotees started singing and chanting mantras in unison. The hypnotic song continues for a while till the service is done.
Our next destination was the local markets of Jaipur. The local markets are where the real businesses happen. People from all walks of life come to the market to sell and buy things. It ranges from flowers, vegetables, fruits, and more. People had started their day by the time we got into the markets.
As we felt the need to have short refreshments, we decided to stop at a tea house. We got into one of the top tea houses in Jaipur. Once we got our teas, we took them and went to the roof of the building to enjoy the view of the city that stretches mile after mile.
The building was in a rugged state, which ironically made the whole tea-drinking experience even more exciting and out of the world.
To experience the spicy Indian food, Bombay Mix, we visited the Namkeen Wali Gali and relished a few snacks. They were spicy, and the tastes were very distinct.
We ended the tour at the Albert Hall Museum. This is one of the top tourist destinations in Jaipur, and the museum gets thousands of visitors every week. The concert hall was built in 1876 and later converted into a museum.
It is a true architectural marvel, and many people visit the same not only to have a great vacation but also to learn about its impeccable architectural grandeur.
Another historical monument that you must visit during your Jaipur cycle tours is the Hawa Mahal. It is one of the most famous buildings in Jaipur. One can say that the Hawa Mahal is not a building in its true sense. It is a façade that was made to help the women watch the daily life and other parades in the city without being seen.
As you expect, this building is also pink and has 953 windows and many balconies. It only has hallways and does not have any rooms.
With that, one of the most exciting experiences in Jaipur, and arguably in India, came to a stop.
When going for a cycle tour in Jaipur, whether it is a short tour or a long one, you need to plan well with your teammates. This helps you avoid confusion and other concerns while touring.
This is the first thing you need to take care of. Plan your path in advance and share the same. Make a map with clear markings to ensure that everyone can understand the path well.
Before starting your Jaipur cycle tour, always inspect your cycle. Check tire pressures, breaks, and other aspects of the cycle to avoid breakdowns in the middle of the road.
If you are going through a place you aren’t familiar with, having a local tour guide will greatly help.
As you will be traveling long distances, you must make extra effort to maintain your hygiene. Hence, always wash your hands and face well before eating and drinking.
It is advisable to carry a first aid kit along with you. This will help you treat yourself or anyone on your team if any injuries occur before the medics can help.
This is important if you are planning on covering long distances. Take regular breaks, and it will help you relax your muscles.
This is another essential part of your tour. Deciding the stops in advance will help everyone expect the break and start together.
Ensure that you have enough water or drinks with you. Avoid drinking from street vendors and small hotels as they may not be hygienic.
Carry enough sunscreen lotions and other protective gear to safeguard yourself from heat and sun.
